DAY 4
It is pissing out there and you can go nowhere today. Stuck inside watching football and drinking draught again. At this rate, I am going to exceed my budget. But really, it is really unpleasant.I was hoping to do a city tour today as I am only here for another two days. I am leaving for Puerto Iguazu on Wednesday. Let's see how it goes. DAY 5
Finally the rain is gone and I had gone on a three hour tour of the city. Cannot explain how beautiful it is and how clean.Saw where the rich and famous live with apartments costing 2 500 dollars/sq meter. Insane! And everywhere I look I can only see a city that is functioning well. The presence of Metropolitan Police is all over and one just feel safe wherever one walks.
But as for every city, it has its poverty area and this is on the South side. This is also where the famous Boca stadium is situated with murals and statues of Maradonna. Also situated about three blocks away further South, is the the colourful Caminito where local artists display their artwork. It also has shops and restaurants, and a festive atmosphere of music and dancing is all part of the backdrop to the colourful buildings.
From there we went to Puerto Madero, an old dockland area turned into restaurants and other commercial builings, very much like our Cape Town Waterfront, except that it is on the banks of a river mouth.
Well that is Buenos Aires for now.I love this city!Leaving tonight on an 18 hour bus trip to Igauzu, to see South America's most famous waterfalls, 275 waterfalls, all next to each other. From pictures I have seen, this experience will be awesome. So,cheers for now and happy days to all!
Oh yes! The cups in the photo above are tea cups and what makes them unique is the silver metal straws inside the cup, besides acting as a straw, it also is constructed at the bottom of the straw with a tiny sieve to filter out the tea leaves. It is quite a common sight to see people walking and having a cuppa of strong tea.
